Rajya Sabha Member Leishemba Sanajaoba has hailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for cushioning the people of the country from the impacts of fuel price hike across the country. Speaking in the Rajya Sabha during zero hour today, Sanajaoba said that almost all countries across the world have been facing sharp rises in fuel prices. Taking serious note of the sharp rise in the prices of crude oil, the Modi Government has cut excise duty on petrol from Rs 13 to Rs 3 per litre. The excise duty on diesel has been cut down to nil from Rs 10 per litre, he said. With the situation in the Middle East further escalating, the price of crude oil has risen sharply. As a result, prices of fuels have increased by 30 per cent to 50 per cent in South East Asian countries, Sanajaoba said. Likewise, fuel prices have been hiked by 30 per cent in North America, 20 per cent in Europe and 50 per cent in Africa, he said. Sanajaoba went on to claim that India is the only country where the sharp rise in crude oil price has not affected the people. The Modi Government has taken up several measures to spare the people of the country from the impacts of the rise in crude oil prices, he said. Fuel prices started rising since the start of the Russia-Ukraine war but the Government of India has been working relentlessly to ensure that people of the country do not face the impacts of the rise in crude oil prices, he continued. As a part of its measures to keep the fuel prices stable, the Modi Government imposed export duty of Rs 21.50 per litre on diesel and Rs 29.50 per litre on aviation turbine fuel (ATF). Sanajaoba said that such steps taken up by the Government have turned out to be a big relief to the 140 crore citizens of the country. He said that the Upper House ought to thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi and its Government for its people-centric initiatives.
On behalf of the Rongmei people, the Rongmei Naga People's Organization (RNPO) and Rongmei Naga Council Manipur (RNCM) have submitted a "joint ultimatum" to Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand with an appeal to start the construction of Tribal Freedom Fighters of India Museum in honour of Rani Gaidinliu at her birth place in Longkao (Nungkao) under Tousem sub-division in Tamenglong within the month of April, 2026 . It has also urged the Government to rectify the overlapping of some areas in Tamenglong with Jiribam Forest Division within the same stipulated time frame. Notably, Union Home Minister Amit Shah had laid the foundation stone of the museum on November 22, 2021 through virtual mode with a budget of Rs 15 crore under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs. In the memorandum, RNPO and RNCM underscored the delay in construction of the museum despite the concerned Ministry reportedly releasing the sanctioned funds five years ago. Stating that the Rongmei people take the matter very seriously, it added that the delay is akin to dishonouring the legendary freedom fighter and shows wilful negligence on the part of the Manipur Government. Highlighting another long-pending demand of the Rongmei people, the memorandum stressed on the need to rectify the overlapping of Tamenglong district with Jiribam Forest Division, wherein a large portion of Tamenglong, especially Tousem sub-division, has been included in Jiribam Forest Division. RNPO and RNCM have urged the Chief Minister's Office to issue necessary directives to all authorities and departments concerned to start the construction work of the museum and rectification of Jiribam Forest Division within the month of April, 2026 . RNPO and RNCM along with like-minded CSOs and public are set to block the NH-37 and enforce a ban on major National projects within their jurisdiction if the Government fails to comply with their ultimatum.

There is nothing people can expect from the BJP-led State Government; it is a Government which has failed miserably to even maintain law and order. This was stated by former Member of Parliament Dr T Meinya. He was speaking at a reception function held in honour of newly elected Imphal West-I District Congress Committee president Hawaibam Ibotombi at Konthoujam Block Congress Committee office, Awang Jiri. Dr Meinya asserted that there is nothing people can expect from the incumbent BJP-led Government. The Government exists only in name. It has failed on all fronts including development and law and order, he said. Following the May 3, 2023 crisis, the people of Manipur suffered untold misery for a long time including one year under the President's Rule. On February 4, 2026, a popular Government was reinstalled with Y Khemchand as the new Chief Minister. Two Deputy Chief Ministers and two Cabinet Ministers were also sworn in on the same day. Even though it has been two months since the new Government was installed, the Chief Minister is still unable to fill in the seven vacant ministerial berths, Dr Meinya said. Chief Minister Y Khemchand met Union Home Minister Amit Shah at Delhi recently but expansion of the State Cabinet to its full strength was nowhere on the agenda. The former Lok Sabha Member asserted that the failure to expand the Council of Ministers to the full strength is detrimental to the State's development. He said that the State's development can be accelerated if the State Cabinet has the full strength of 12 Ministers. The Government is still unable to resettle IDPs or ensure free movement on National Highways, he remarked. Manipur needs a Government which stands and works for the people, he asserted. Dr Meinya then called upon all the people to work collectively to install a people-centric Congress Government in the 2027 State Assembly election. Newly elected Imphal West-I District Congress Committee president Hawaibam Ibotombi said that he would work at his best level to strengthen the Congress party under the leadership of AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and MPCC president Okram Ibobi. Imphal West-I District Congress Committee comprises Konthoujam AC, Sekmai AC, Patsoi AC and Lamsang AC .

In a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the World Meetei Council (WMC) has brought forward the issue of Kuki-Zo armed groups under the Suspension of Operations (SoO) and the continued blockade of the critical stretch along NH-2/AH-1 by them in Manipur. WMC has sought the Prime Minister's intervention to initiate immediate and effective measures to restore peace and free movement along the National Highways and bring a just and lasting resolution to the crisis without further delay. WMC acknowledged that the Central Government has been actively working towards resolving insurgency issues in the North East, particularly involving Meetei insurgent groups, with a stated goal of bringing such challenges to an end. However, it interjected that the approach being followed appears to be causing unintended hardship to the civilian population, especially the Meetei community. According to WMC, there is a growing perception among the people that armed SoO groups have been allowed "operational freedom", which has led to a sense of injustice and insecurity among the population, who feel caught in the crossfire of policies and conflict dynamics. Highlighting another concern, WMC noted the continued blockade of about 30 km along the NH-2 by the Kuki-Zo SoO groups. "It is difficult for the people to reconcile calls by the Centre on the State Government to restore normalcy when the armed SoO groups are beyond the control of the State. This has only added to the frustration and sense of helplessness among the citizens", WMC added. The Council has urged the Prime Minister to ensure that the people of Manipur are treated at par with citizens of Gujarat or in any other part of the country.

The Wangjing-Lamding Keithel Shopkeepers Development Association (WLKSDA) has resolved to temporarily refrain from extending donations or any form of monetary assistance to organisations, student bodies and civil society groups, citing severe financial difficulties faced by local traders. The decision was taken following a sit-in protest staged by shopkeepers at Wangjing-Lamding Keithel, covering both the new and old market areas over unbearable monetary demands imposed upon them. Speaking to media persons, WLKSDA vice-president Yendrembam Ashakumar said that the prevailing violence in Manipur has significantly affected the livelihood of shopkeepers who depend on daily business for survival. He stated that declining sales have left many traders in distress, with some unable to repay bank loans, clear interest dues, or even pay shop rents. He further pointed out that frequent demands for donations from various organisations, student groups and civil society bodies have added to the burden of the already struggling shopkeepers. "Most businesses are run on bank loans, and the small profits earned are used to sustain families and support children's education," he said.
