The 63rd National Film Awards 2015 for the Best Manipuri Feature Film was awarded to the Eibushu Yaohanbiyu' directed by Haorongbam Maipaksana Singh. The film is based on a disabled boy, who longs to play football like his able friends. The film shows how a disabled boy could make it to a football even as faces various hardships.

Director of 'Eibushu Yaohanbiyu' Maipaksana is associated with various forms of art and theatre. He has an expertise making short and documentary films. Editing and directing films is one of his main professions. His works in theatre and performing arts is also worth mentioning. Besides, Maipaksana has won accolades in script writing too.

Maipaksana has completed three years Diploma in Film and Video editing from Jyoti Chitraban Film and Television Institute, Guwahati. He has also undergone training in film and video. He has completed Integrated course on Mass Media and Media personalities from MA Film and Video Arts, Imphal; Diploma in Non-Linear Editing (NLE) from 'Studio Maya Melody' Dibrugarh, Assam and Diploma in Non-Linear Editing from 'Third Eye Training Services' Guwahati, Assam.

He has also completed trainings in Theatre too. Maipaksana has completed one year dramatic diploma from Institute of Performing Arts, Imphal in collaboration with National School of Drama, New Delhi; worked on Guru Sishya Parampara System under the supervision and guidance of Avant Garde Director Sankhya Ibotombi Haorokcham continuously for five years on Film and Theatre production and Direction.

For him, his first journey started from theatre works. And perhaps his first and the longest guidance were from Ibotombi Haorokcham which is a very popular figure in Theatre of the state.

Maipaksana is associated with films and video works. As a producer, editor and director, documentary and tele-films under the banner of Emasana Cine Lab production were produced for Programme Production Centre (North east) Doordarshan Guwahati and Doordarshan Kendra Imphal (DDK Imphal).

He worked in commissioned for Films Division Mumbai as a programme executive and director for the documentary film 'Loktak Lake Our Soul' under the banner of Emasana Cine Lab production. As a freelancer producer in documentary films, more than ten documentary films have been produced for Educational Multimedia Research Centre, Manipur University.

Maipaksana is also associated with Sumang Leela (our traditional courtyard play). As a scriptwriter, some of his scripts have been staged till now. Among them, 'Ee-mari' by Sanaleipak Nachom Artist Association was on public demand and staged at 16th Bharat Rang Mahotsav International Theatre Festival of India. Other plays 'Sagol Kangjei' by Sanaleipak Nachom Artist Association and 'Sangaigi Lily' by Sangai Artist Association may be mentioned.

All his hard works in various art forms and theatre made him the award winner in the 63rd National Film Awards 2015 for his film 'Eibushu Yaohanbiyu'. Besides he has also won various other awards too. He was awarded Best director and best film for the short film 'Canvas' in the HVS Manipur short (fiction) film festival 2015.

He was awarded scholarship by the Department of Culture Government of India for his studies in Theatre in 1999-2000. Awarded best script for the theatre play 'Modern Vampire' in the 12th All India Drama and Dance Competition organized by Nistha Sanskritik Manch, Gurgaon, Haryana.

After his graduation, he has done different course on film, theatre, performing arts, etc. He is presently pursuing Master course in Manipuri subject in Manipur University. Honours and awards is not just what Maipaksana wants. He is still exploring through every possible way to produce and direct more films.

What he has done is just a beginning and says that he still have to go many more miles in the field of art and theatre. He is keen to bring out films based on the social issues being faced by our society. The National awards is through the joint efforts of the artists, cameraman, editing, crew members and all those associated during the filming.

He is proud to consult the experts he has known and also unknown in bringing the award winning film. Without their help and guidance the award would not be on his cards. Winning the best feature film award at the National level has encouraged him. With this in mind, Maipaksana has already packed up to start a new project also.
