It was the childhood dream and the Miss Universe 1994 title of Sushmita Sen that inspires Ibethoi Thokchom who wishes to walk on the ramp dedicate herself in the glamorous world of model and fashion. She believes joining the world of model is a platform where one can spread the message of harmony and peace and have a chance to interact or share one's thoughts and ideas. But she is cautious because walking on ramp would be a difficult task. However, she is confident she got the talent to walk in ramps even to the national level or higher.
Ibethoi began her career in the world of modeling with the help of Neena Takhellambam, a professional choreographer as well as a model, with her guide and support she completed a 3 months course of modelling in Doren Chanambam's Freeway Institute of Fashion Arts [FIFA]. She was simultaneously groomed by Kavita Keisham, Advocate and Personality Developement Instructor of FIFA in respect to personality developement. Ibethoi learnt the lessons of catwalk from Shailesh, the Instructor of FIFA and Neena.
She has participated in various fashion parade being held in Manipur while she misses many opportunities to participate outside the state due to some inconveniences. Her first ever walk on ramp show was the 'Living Looms' which was held at The Classic Hotel in the year 2010. She was surprised to see such a wonderful crowd who applaud her on her first ever ramp show. With great hope in mind she decided she would never stop walking on ramps.
With encouragement and support from every circle, as she steps in to the world of fashion and model, she aims to go a long way journey wherever she can. After her first walk on the ramp with 'Living Looms' at the Classic Hotel in 2010 she has also participated in 'Autumn Winds' by R-Square at Classic Hotel, World Bamboo Day Fashion Show at Singjamei, Leirol of Doren at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen in 2011 and also at the Buyers and Sellers' Meet Fashion Parade at MFDC Auditorium in 2012.
She maintained that modeling provides a platform where a model can spread the message of love, peace and harmony in a society. But she opined that a model of Manipur should find an alternative profession for livelihood as Manipur is lacking behind in providing a bright future prospect to the models. She also urged the concerned authorities to make a policy and take up steps in which models can be groomed and find a fitting area for survival in our society.
Maintaining body structure, height, skin care, hair care, diet, exercise, mental fitness, character and discipline are the qualities of a model according to Ibethoi. After her participation in various fashion shows, she opted for Miss Contests where she can show her hidden talents in a larger arena. Ibethoi has faith in Beauty Contests as a larger arena for conveying messages to the society.
With support from the members of her family and other well wishers, she manages to get the 'Best Slogan' title drafted by Kavita Keisham, in the state level Manipur Pineapple Queen Contest 2011, held at Khuman Lampak, Manipur in her first ever attempt in Beauty Pageant. Boynao Haorongbam was her Designer and Make up artist. She was nervous when her name was included in the top ten finalist and was also shocked to be awarded the Best Slogan title. It was really an amazing moment for her. With great hope and expectations she decided to join miss contest in a bid to test her talents so she joined the Miss Kut contest in 2011.
She realized she gain to overcome fear psychosis and stage fright when she participated the Manipur Pineapple Queen contest. This led her to get the Miss Beautiful Hair and First Runner's Up title in the Miss Kut 2011 contest. Crossing beyond the state level miss contests with various titles, she walk the ramp without any hesitation at the Mega Miss North East at Dimapur in 2012. To her surprise, she was crowned 2nd runners up and Miss Photogenic Title of the Mega Miss North East 2012. So, she recently joined the three day Special Guests Class by Halley Laithangbam, the renown International Model at Mumbai and Banglore at FIFA. She acquired a lot in her personality as well as fashion terminology for her further career.
But the awards/titles would not have come true without the guidance, knowledge, advice, encouragement and the inspiring words - "We are not born to be defeated" from Phurailatpam Iboyaima Sharma, a retired professor of GP women's college, a renowned singer, a lyricist and a novelist whom Ibethoi always seek every guide from him.
She is proud to see upcoming models and miss contestants being inspired by the achievement she achieved. But on one side, she urged the upcoming models and miss contestants to be on the positive side for a better cause as we are living a fashion world.
Surprisingly, the Manipuri film industry will be filled with the talents of Ibethoi Thokchom in the near future. She has been invited for many music videos and films. Her first appearance will come alive with an English music video for which shooting has been scheduled. But on joining the glamorous world of silver screen, she is cautious on the character. She wishes to take the role of being a messenger of the masses.
To the youths: Self realization is the need of the hour. When the youths are not united and realize the present scenario of our society, we won't be able to make a better society. AVOID DRUGS.
