It is not yet dawn. No one has come down so far. Only the father and the son in a boat can be seen stirring on the river. The son is at the oar and the father is mending the fishing net.

The father looks around and shouts at his son for dozing. Mani put down the oar and started washing his face. Chaoba seems to have been moved by how his son ungrudgingly obeyed him. He takes out a bidi and shares it with his son.

Then the father and the son steer their boat towards the deep waters of the eddy of Longor Baba. After casting their net once and twice, they move down southwards.

Drifting a little further near the ghat of Naorem family they hit on luck. Now in the net is seen a big hilsa rolling and laping, silvery white.

Chaoba, with a glow on his face, decides not to sell it off.

Instead with hope to invite his daughter, who was now in an advanced stage of pregnancy to a meal, Chaoba returns home with his son. Today he wishes to share the taste of the hilsa with his son and the rests of the family.

But the moment his daughter Tampha brings out the hookah he comes to know from her that they have no rice to cook. In an instant his appetite for the hookah vanishes.
